  • Green Horse 303

This popped up on our favorite Japanese auction site, not seen this model before. It is missing the dual seahorse motif between the 303 and Green Horse text. I have a Purple Horse 202 so I think this probably is a genuine model, Ref 11538/1-303 on the case back

Nice find JP, pity about the horses. Is the 202 a hand winder too?

Do we have a plausible theory about the reason some Rados are maked with /1 at the end of the reference number?

It makes sense for the transitional models to have /E so that Rado, dealers and service technicians will know it is an ETA-powered watch (whereas most others would have been Schild-powered). But the /1 versions...why are they distinguished from the originals?

This reference number, 11538/1-303, seems particularly unusual.

I'd be fascinated if we can decipher these.

image_27169.png Just checked my Purple Horse 202 and it has a /2 reference number and a -202 suffix

Here is a crazy thought: Did they add these suffixes to make the 5-digit ref. fall in line with the post-1972 length of new reference numbers?...possibly after a decision to use up old cases (with new dials, in many instances, it seems)?

Maybe it was simply a marketing tactic...as selling old ref. 11536 next to new ref 625.1234.5 would raise eyebrows?

              Voyager 11814/1GT:

Eta movement looks like an 006 date code?

Perhaps the best part of this watch is the wonderful gibberish of the seller's description:

"The case has a feeling of use. Breath is made of Bambi, it is not original. Approximately 18 cm correspondence."
