A rugged, but elegant, 10-micron Gold-Plated (over brush-finished 316L),"Pilot" homage watch with a large dial, flat sapphire crystal, and beautifully-decorated ETA 6497 Movement; i.e., engraved with "Cote de Genève" Striping, then, Nickel-Plated and Blue-Screwed!
A "lavish" SuperLumiNova-coated dial lights up all night long and well into the next morning. In a word (or two), this is one "SWEET" Watch! (Pls. checkout my various pix showing the Ø=47mm bezel, LumiNova markings and "Old-Gold" Vintage Patina - LOVE IT!)
And, at $740 - or $690 for a limited time with a Steinhart Newsletter Coupon! - it was also a "Steal Of A Deal" for a LIMITED EDITION (88 Pieces TOTAL!) HW "Pilot-Design" Timepiece!
BTW, FWIW, I'm NOT affiliated in ANY way with www.steinhartwatches.com, but I AM a satisfied customer with "burgeoning" Watch-Idiot-Savante ( "WIS" ) tendencies!
I purchased this watch directly "off-the-web" from "Jon" (the GM at Steinhart here in the USofA!) He even sent a lovely Steinhart Pen Set (Fountain AND Ballpoint) along with the watch!
Then, when I subsequently mentioned that the original strap was "tight", Jon went out of his way to find a matching XL one for my 8¾-inch wrist and send it my way - for FREE!
FYI, I should mention that I have 30+ watches and NONE of them arrived with a strap that's anything near as big AND SUPPLE as the one that came with my NEW "Grand Marquis!" (It's remarkably like "old baseball glove" leather in its flexibility, but nice 'new 'n fresh-looking with a gorgeous pebble-grain texture!)
NB: I've worn this watch for almost two weeks and, IMHO, it's amazingly accurate; i.e., it ONLY gains 3~4 seconds every 24 hours AND, when fully wound, the "power reserve" seems to be around 40 hours! I don't know if this is typical for a genuine Swiss-Made UNITAS 6497, but I'm "pleased as punch" with its C.O.S.C. time-keeping!
Overall, based on "Fit 'n Finish", Design (Compliance), Appearance, Strap (and Buckle), AND Product Support, I give this watch an "A+ !!!"
