Las Vegas is a strange place. I had a lot of fun, did not gamble one thin dime and am not sure I ever need to return.

Though I didn't come home with anything the watch shopping is amazing. Bregeut, Blancpain, Panerai, Breitling, shops. Multiple Cartier, Rolex, Tiffany, Tag and Omega stores. The Tourneau was really big and was one of the ones with friendly, knowledgeable staff. The Rose gold Centrix had arrived at the Tourneau the day before I visited. It's a beauty! The Harry Winston store was hilarious. The door was locked all the time and they would let you in, or not if they felt like it. The Prestige Swatch store was pretty snooty too. It carried all the lines above Rado except Tiffany and they were sort of obnoxious. A lot of beautifulwatches in that store.

Did you get to the Hoover Dam?

Hi Brad,

It was a whirlwind visit with many activities. It was also over 100F everyday so we did not go out to Hoover Dam or Red Rock. We stayed within the confines of the city.

The trip back was a bit of an adventure though. We left the Aria at 9:30 AM for a two hour flight to Calgary. Once htere we were scheduled to have a five hour wait. Severe thunderstorms made that more than eight hours. Fortunately we left the airport to visit a friend and checked online a few times, so we weren't in the airport. Then the one hour flight to Toontown was through a thunderstorm severe enough that sensitive people were being sick fromthe turbulence. We had a very hot landing at the airport and were told to deplane immediately and in a hurry. Then we had to wait in the airport for about an hour for the storm to pass before the groundcrew could approach the plane to retrieve luggage. We finally got homeat aboput 1:00 AM to find the storm we had travelled through had struck a transformer near our house and we had no power until some time later in the morning.

Crazy! The weather has been very weird and, in many cases, unfortunate recently. Some friends and relatives of mine live outside Colorado Springs and are facing fires/evacuations. A map I saw this morning shows the fire zone in Waldo Canyon is ~2 miles from a B&B run by an old friend's mother. Scary stuff...I can imagine that the view from Pikes Peak is profound.

I'm glad you made it home safely, despite the inconveniences. Did you visit the Pawn Stars?

Nice to see you had a safe journey home. I already saw your pics at FB, you seem to have enjoyed your visit in Vegas. BTW, not bad for a toy camera. You just have to switch to Photoshop if you want your shirt in the original colour - but I would leave it in blue, looks better.

As I said, I'm not sure I ever need go back but we did enjoy it. It's a totally surreal place; almost Roman in it's excess.

I was interested by how many places served Bloody Caesar's. That is a drink that is almost impossible to find outside of Canada.

I had to look up The Last Word. The Caesar was invented in 1969 in Calgary. Mott's claims it is the most popular mixed drink in Canada. Something liek a third of a billion are served yearly.

It's:

Vodka, Clamato juice(clam and tomato juice blend made by Mott's), Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, celery salt, a stalk of celery and a lime wedge. New Orleans Bloody Mary's are very similar to this as they tend to use a vegetable cocktail rather than tomato juice.

I would have thought that las Vegas would embrace bourbon culture as it is gaining in popularity but I couldn't get a Sazerac to save my life. Even though I could get a Dalton in most places I had to tell the bartender how to make it.

Hmmmh. I also had to look for The Last Word.
After my taste, it´s better to have The Last Word than The Caesar.
Still my favourite - Tequila Sunrise in the "Mike version":
Ice, 4 cl brown Tequila, 2 cl Cointreau, Hitchcock orange juice(not a sweet one), 2 cl Grenadine
