Project watches - Report II

Hello all and thanks for the recent feedback on my custom watch project. I sold that one and am moving on to the next. I'm at the stage of obtaining some interesting Unitas movements and trying some case suppliers as well as suppliers of dials, hands, straps...

Here's the most recent arrival. Case and dial from Switzerland, the movement is a very clean vintage 6497:

Obviously, I still need to install the hands, trim down the stem and add a steel crown. Straps are on their way--of a suitably military style. With the sharp dial printing and sapphire crystal this one looks really slick, even with the plastic protector over the face!

Fine work Brad, so where did the dial come from I need a similar style for one of my projects?

After Brad brought up the subject of designing and making his own models it got me to thinking.

Have any of you ever considered using one of the newer model quartz watch case and dial as a donor for a Swiss automatic movement? I find some fairly new quartz model watches that look nice, but don't attract much in the way of bids. It seems many of the "old" Swiss and American brands were bought and now are sold with quartz/Chinese movements.

There are many Swiss mechanical/automatic movements for sale in cases that are of no value.

That is coming along nicely Brad. I didn't used to care for that style of crown at all, but I am coming around to them. I have started to like them, especially when they are with a coin rimmed bezel.

Those unfinished sunburst ETA 28XX dials have given me all kinds of thoughts that I shouldn't pursue.

Almost finished. Just awaiting a final close-up and the straps...

That's coming along very nicely. The lugs on that case are much nicer than on may that fellow sells. Nice choice.

FYI- if you were using some pre-printed dials like this one it would not be hard to put a small version of your imprint on. Just saying.
