  • It's here ...

I going to have to learn how to take car pictures. One thing is for certain, they come out better in the shade. But, shade is scarce in CT in March.

Most of the folks on the MINI forum name their cars. I haven't even decided the gender of mine yet. But, if a girl, I'm think I might call her Pam.

More pictures at the link. Click once to enlarge, twice for full size. Better pictures to follow once the new wheels are on and I figure out how to take a good picture of something larger than a watch.

The car is magnificent. I am SO glad I did not get an '07 ...even my wife and kids thought it was ugly. And the sound this one makes is so sweet ...the whine of the supercharger, the growl of the exhaust, the go-cart handling ...its the real deal and well worth having waited five years for.

Thank you all for putting up with me while I waited. I really appreciate it.

    Absolutely awesome!!!

Somehow the "reality" of this makes it all the sweeter. Awesome looking ride! The wait certainly makes the arrival a wonderful experience.

names? Well, to continue a trend...

        WoooHooo! Nice ride...

I rather like sunshine for taking pics of cars. But it does seem to work better for me when the sun is lower in the sky. Since I'm not overly fond of mornings, late afternoon and evening works better for me. It's all about the angles of reflections. I think what you need to focus on is getting all that tacky white stuff that's piled all around to go away. That might help a bit.

That really is a nice ride for you. Not sure how long that younger half of your family will fit in those rear seats, but by the time they've outgrown the space, they won't want to be caught dead with you in public anyway. So, it's probably a non-issue.

Not only does this ride deserve a name, you should get personalized plates with the car's name. How many letters can you have on CT plates? And BTW, take that tag holder off the front. Your car will look much better without it.

Here's one of my shots of Ms. Scarlett...

Life is good when the kids grow up and you don't have to worry about a backseat anymore.

            Sweet!

            Congratulations, Dean.

I hate to admit it but I have never even sat inside a Mini, not to mention drive one. Unfortunately, there is no dealer in Reno but there are a few used examples on some of the dealer lots. I may have to go try one on for size. I was really close to buying a new VW GTI but I just couldn't do it when it came to writing a check for $25,000+. Perhaps a used Cooper S might be the answer...

I look forward to more photos and you'll have to get Zach to snap a photo of your grin as you put this baby through it's paces.

Spectacular! I really like the color, and i can already tell how bitchin it will be with those new wheels!

I think the pics look fine.

It's crazy how much winter it still is up there. We will occasionally get a light dusting of snow or dip into freezing up until April, but the leaves have already budded out and the grass is turning green around here.

Enjoy the new toy and go driving!

                  Thanks, Don ...

That was exactly my thought ...a lower sun would be better. And if there was a little less snow around that would help too. I've scoped out some nice spots for pictures, one is a bridge over my favorite trout stream. Its a one lane bridge, so I'll have to hope no one is around when I park it in the middle and then go upstream to take the shot.

As for the tag on the front plate, its the law in CT. No plate on front = ticket.

A common misconception about MINIs is that they are small. I don't know why people think that ...but this is only true on the outside. My 16 year old daughter can sit behind me and she has room. Its the first car I've ever owned where I didn't have to put the seat back as far as it goes.

Today was a good day for my daughter as well, because my Accord is hers now and she gets her license in May.

As for personalized plates, we get 8-letters. I was thinking "reelsmth".

                      Thank you, Páll ...

Drive one, they are way cool.

If you can find a dealer with '06 cars on the lot you can get a deal. Mine is pretty much loaded and I paid $25K. An '07 with the same options would have been over $28K. If you go used, stick with '06, it was the year they got all of the bugs out.

                        Thanks, Brad. They will ...

...be reintroducing the Clubman next year, sort of a MINI with an extended rear end. Or as the women on the MINI forum like to say, a MINI with more junk in the trunk.

I agree about the winter ....

One day last week it was 70 degrees out. I was in short sleeves shooting baskets in the driveway. The next day we got 16" of snow.

Thanks for the comment about the pictures. I guess they aren't too bad ...but I'm really looking forward to doing better. Best part is I get to drive to the photo shoot.

Congrats Dean....that is a beauty....I think it is a boy

car with that silver and black look......My advice is to name it "Ranger."

                            For three reasons:

                            1. The Lone Ranger rode Silver......Your Mini is silver. You are somewhat of a Lone Ranger yourself! Maybe you can find a Scout for your wife and she can be Tonto!

                            2. Ranger is a great model of fishing lures made by The Roberts Company....Ties (no pun intended) into your love of fishing stuff....

                            3. The Ranger was a great vintage Tudor....no date....simple yet elegant....small on the outside, yet a big robust movement inside.....Ties into your love of watch stuff....

                            Yep....Ranger....that's my recommendation.

                              Very cool! I really like

those twin stripes on the hood. It doen't have a date wheel, does it?

Neat looking car! It will look (and feel) great tooling around in the CT spring.

Spring is sprung; the grass is ris.
I wonder where Dean and his Mini is?
