  • Sales descriptions...sheesh!

Just saw an advert for a watch (with no photos, but that's another peeve) and the description states it "comes with alternative box."
Is that like 'alternative facts'? because if so, the seller must not have got the memo: alternative facts are not facts, they are wrong. Or worse, lies.
Why not just say "box included is not original to the watch" or somesuch?
    Damn this new Orwellian doublespeak.

Doesn't Omega offer alternative boxes for some of their models? I seem to recall reading about the possibility of getting a wooden box for some models instead of the standard box.

I'm guessing the listing to which you refer is not of that sort. You have to give them credit for creative spin.

Next thing you know- "This watch comes with alternative parts."

Perhaps you could even employ some quantum physics and say this is the "standard box" in an "alternative dimension". First we had political correctness, now we we've just got........

I would like to offer this Daytona for sale, which was alternatively sourced. No box/papers, obvs.
              Always eager to hear more

                LOL. Yes, indeed.
Perhaps 'alternative intelligence' may be the next thing. What we used to call 'intellectually challenged.'
                'Lunacy' becomes 'alternative sanity'...
                Where will it end?!?!?

Oh Brad, I am away for months and then I happen to see this message. You always entertain!

I could debate the application of the term "Orwellian" because it references only one of his works and the man himself was one of the staunchest truth-seeking socialists ever, suffice it to say that sellers seem to have gotten lazier than ever.

The pretty game of buying and selling timepieces was never very pretty, but there was a time when a certain level of dignity was imparted amongst involved parties. Those types of exchanges are fewer and farther between, sadly.

I observe that many newer watch collectors spend less time researching their targets, seeking a quick acquisition. When it comes time to sell, a profit is expected. Good luck to them.

D., I did not know you were back in the USA. You are a terrific seller (as is Brad and many of our EOT compadres.)!

We may indeed idealize the past, much messiness existed in the selling world then as well. I am more aware of the ignorance now. Perhaps as I slide toward senescence my tolerance for such has diminished.
