Within a few days I should be able to add more, and rather clearer pictures of these.....

    Funky...

Is that a linen dial or just the typical online seller picture quality? Seriously, I've gotten a few bargains just because the picture quality is so bad, no ones wants to take a chance on it.

Picture quality is thanks to my zooming in a long way and then treating the picture to bring out the indices.

Yes I think there is a touch of linenicity to the dial:

      Will go on this strap

Looks cool...reminds me of some textured dials and markers from Rado during that era.
I look forward to images and comments once you receive it.

That strap looks great! That should make an interesting combination.

Here's a photo of the whole thing:

I asked the vendor (a vintage Seiko specialist) if it would have originally have had a faceted crystal, but he said that only patterned and striped dials had those - this gentle two-tone fade wouldn't have had one. It's only 36mm but I'm expecting it to have plenty of presence. The dial really does look in excellent condition.

Looks great, DA! I particularly like it on the strap you bought for it.

Unfortunately the watch is gaining a second a minute, a minute an hour, so back to the vendor it will be going :( OH WELL *plaintive and also heavy sigh*

Are you returning it for service or a refund?
It's a smart looking piece and, like Brian wrote, I think the straps match the dial very well.

Hopefully for a repair. It had supposed been serviced - this dealer doesn't make blanket claims for his watches, only if an individual watch has been serviced immediately prior to being sold does he mark it so. So hopefully its just a case of something simple having had a nasty shock en route, something that it can be sorted easily. One of the edges of the box had received a smack somewhere along the line, so I'm not totally surprised tbh. (I hate imagining the abuse that parcels must receive the postal system!) The dealer is also offering a full refund. This is the 4th time I've bought from him, so we've a good relationship.

He also mentioned something very interesting: by bizarre coincidence, since selling me this, he's got an identical watch into stock. He's suggesting perhaps a straight replacement! My answer will be basically: is the dial on the second watch is as excellent condition as this first one? This kind of relatively ornate design I wouldn't be keen on in a rough condition.

Btw, once I had got the watch onto the strap, with the wide combination of the bezel+case, I realised that it was reminding not unpleasantly of this recent LE:

Though I suspect this is the watch lurking in the back of my mind that encouraged my eye to be caught by the Seiko:

Heard from the dealer that the watch is back from the watchmaker and appears to be behaving nicely now. We've agreed that trying to get through the Christmas mail is a bad idea so he won't be sending it until January. So I've a nice treat to look forward to....two months after paying for it!

The dealer doesn't know how to translate what the problem was so that will remain a mystery to me! But at least I know that the dealer has been charged for a part, not just a clean

This watch appears to be healthy. Monday:
