          I Am A Fool

Just in case there are new visitors here, or some of my supporters began to think opposite thoughts.

As you remember last time, boys and girls, Alan was in money trouble. He first sold two watches for a ridiculous amount. It helped, but just a bit. Then, he sold a watch for $1500. This helped some more, but when he sold the watch, temptation reared it's head. Yes, the fool met his customer at Tourneau, which was (and still is) having a closeout on a brand that featured a watch that Alan lusted after. Coincidentally, it was priced at $1500. But our hero resisted.

Then, unable to deall with mass transit commuting, Alan bought a car, which cost all of the money he scraped together. What a dumb bunny!

Still in hot water, he sold another two watches last Friday and returned to solvency. But then...

He returned today to Tourneau. The salesman remembered him well, since Alan drooled on the counter when he first saw the watch. And then, despite common sense screaming inside him, Alan bought the watch. Of course, he loves it. But will he still have enough to cover his bills?

Anyway, here's the watch. It's another Fortis, a Cosmonaut Chronograph. "Ah," you may say. "What's so special about this one? He already has the superb B-42 Chronograph/Alarm. What Fortis could complement that?

This. It's got the late, lamented Lemania 5100 movement. It's the Diver model, so it lacks the tachymeter scale Alan does not care for, but has an adjustable bezel that simply displays minutes, which Alan much prefers. It was also 40% off list price, which Alan also cares for, since new Lemania 5100s are getting to be rare and some sellers are jacking up the price, if you could find one.

After the unpleasantness of the B-42 problems, Alan made sure that Cosmo works perfectly. Which it does. But there's a three year warranty just in case of problems. Alan may be a fool, but he ain't stupid.

As you can see, the watch is quite legible, even at a distance. The tritium treated hands and indices are a welcome feature as well.

Guess I've become a "chronograph guy."

Turns out they're not meant to fall down a flight of stairs... who knew?

Actually it fell from the balcony so it caught quite a knock but no marks on the outside. We are back in the land of film for few more weeks.

Great score especially for the movement. Great looking watch.

Yes it was a bit of a bargain and I'm glad to see he's putting out some more models.

WatchTime did an interesting report on Lemania 5100 equipped pieces, including a similar Fortis, some years ago.

Here's the link. (Worth reading, trust me.)

They have two or three more with the 5100. But, they're limited editions with either unusual dial designs or two-tone cases.

I got the last of the "simple" models.
