  • Opinion : RADO GOLDEN HORSE and RADO GREEN HORSE on EBAY

    Hi there,

Really happy to be here and to get your support and help when it comes to RADO watches.
I could not find anything great out there in Seoul when I was looking around - also I do not have enough knowledge to verify a 100% that
I miss out on a detail. I steered for once to Ebay to look for a GOLDEN HORSE or GREEN HORSE and wanted to hear your opinion on these
finds in terms of originality and price. They seem authentic to me and the Sellers trustworthy.

Looking forward to your replies & have a great day from Seoul,

    Hi,

-The first one has purple horses, so it was almost certainly a purple horse. It is most definitely not all original and from the case back it looks to have been polished to within an inch of it's life.
    - The third has been refinished, polished beyond an inch of it's life and quite possibly replated. I do not know that the dial was available in black.
-The second looks original. I don't buy much anymore, so I am not good with pricing, but I see some patina on the dial and there is probably ruboff on the case.
Solve all your doubts through question mode.

      Hi!

Not much to add to Henry´s comments, I agree completely.
Prices around 200 - 400 US$ meanwhile seem to be normal for Horses of that time period.
The 3rd one has a black refinished dial (even mentioned in the description) and the reference 11658, so it should have a 30-jw-movement.
Original dial colours white and gold.
It´s shown in the 1962 German Catalogue (right, C):

Thanks for your comment on these deals. Definitely very helpful insight.

Yeah, I read the description and was just interested what your take is on these Ebay listings.
Seems the two listings from South Korea that are refinished and polished are total crap and only the Golden Horse from Japan seems worth a shot .

Thank you for the original catalogue picture - it is a German catalogue using old "Deutsche Mark".
Good my mothertongue is German so I can read even all of it .

I will be on the hunt for the real deals then and keep sharpening my eyes to find the original pieces.

          Hi!

For a collector, who wants the "real thing", they are crap.
For s.o. just looking for a vintage style watch, they maybe look nice.
There´s an incredible lot of Frankens out there on the market places.
Japan is a good market for real vintage.

The whole 1962 German catalogue and more is to find here: https://www.pinterest.de/vintagerado/

          Viel Glück bei der Suche!
