I will try hard to get some fresh information on the Rado thing pretty soon..what a fortune, eh?
Hey Marcus, maybe this guy still lives there. Put on your detective hat and have a few beers at the local pub, ask a few people you, might be able to track him down. It would be a great thing to have access to a treasure trove of inside information and answer these nagging questions. This is your mission, should you decide to accept it. Good luck!

Except for a couple examples posted by Mike, it strikes me as interesting that the last two digits of the three digit code never exceeds 12....... I've known of manufacturers that used a 3 digit code for a date stamp. The first digit is the last number of the decade, and the last two are the month. This leaves the necessity of guessing which decade. So a code of 411 would be November of 1954 or 1964 or 1974 etc. Normally with 10 years of separation between decades it is not hard to figure out which one it is based on style etc. I'm not saying that is the case here, just that it strikes me a bit odd that the last two digits don't exceed 12.

Here's 2 more to add, well only one really, but I'll post them both for interest sake. Brad you picked up on this the other day and I just received another watch with the same anomaly.

ETA 2824 Rado 2824 - 409 Balboa V Chronometer 8 digit case number suffixed with 'A' ( no model number or balboa could have polished off)
ETA 2824 Rado 2824 - 307 Lauberhorn 6 digit case number prefixed with 'K' ( no model number)

Note: Both watches have the upgraded regulator adjustment, so it may common to ETA 2824, not just the 'Chronometer'.
PS. I have discovered my 2 Frigates have ETA 2824 with the upgraded regulator adjustment so it's probably common to this movement. However none of the examples on Dr. Ranfft's has this feature.

            2824 Spreadsheet

I have made a quick spread sheet, while waiting for an auction to finish, for the ETA 2824 in the order they were posted. We need more information for the watches we have listed. Model numbers, case numbers and from them Brad may be able to give us some dates.
From what I can see the Rado cal number for a given ETA cal number seems to be constant (please tell me if this is wrong). Someone has probably already said this but the second 2 numbers in the 3 digit code probably refers to the month of manufacture, since it never seems to exceed 12 so the first number is probably one of three things. Since it seems not to exceed 7, it could be a day of the week, but it's unlikely they worked 7 days. So it's probably a production line or an inspector number. In the entire thread there is only one exception posted by Mike:[ETA 2789 - Rado 2798 465 - Voyager Two] You will note that it's possible for 3 different models of watch to have an identical set of numbers, presumably because they were manufactured in the same month (although maybe not the same year) on the same line or inspected by an inspector with the same number.
I am however, having given this some thought, leaning towards the hypothesis stated earlier in this thread that the first digit is the year number in the decade as I have seen examples of the first digit being 0, this being the case I would like to see examples of 8 & 9. If this correct it will mean the Frigate at the bottom of the spreadsheet should be manufactured in March 1973.
            Thoughts?

Do you think you can find model and case numbers for some of those you have already posted?

Here is an updated 2824 Spreadsheet using the date to sort data. Marcus, you can use it to see what you've already posted to save duplication. Henry and Brad need to add some model names if possible. If members can edit their posts and add what's missing, plus add the rest of the available data to this thread, I can expand this spreadsheet for the other calibers too, it may however be difficult for the non ETA movements as in most cases there's no date codes. Perhaps Brad and Mike could supply the dates for those from their registers and I'll add it in later. The whole thing could be added to the stickies for reference and be updated as required.

Thanks Mike, I'd love to put all the models and movements in this thread into one big spreadsheet but I keep running up against the thread software for going over 10000 characters, not literally of course, but space wise I probably am. I'll have to send Brad a PM and see what can be done. I'll add your 2824 in and see what happens.

                                Hi Tim!

None of my ETA 2824 Rados wears a reference number, the Limmat V wears neither a reference nor a case number.
All of the backs are in good condition, so it´s impossible that a number had been polished away.
                                Best regards, Mike
