  • Two weeks one watch

Just got home from two weeks up in the UP with my father, took and wore one watch only, and it was the first time in forever. I took my Dolphin as it is small and comfortable to wear under heavy clothing. Maybe 25 years ago, maybe more, Don, Dad and I went up to the UP for a few hunts in a couple of years. WE had a blast but it was a long drive up to Iron Mountain just on the border of Wisconsin, and we stopped going. We always talked about going back and I guess time just got the better of us. Well, this spring Don passed away, and well, dad, dad was 86 on the day Kennedy was killed, so I got to thinking early in the year, If we were ever getting back it better be darn soon. So we made a memorial hunt and we got a cabin in Rapid River and we went. I bought a new 243 Savage so that if we found a nice spot dad could sit and watch overlooking a valley we had a long range shooter. I know he cannot walk like he used to, or sit as long, so we ended up not hunting the whole day like we used to but it was a great trip. We spent a bit more time in the casinos than I anticipated , but oh well, it was dads trip, probably for all intents and purposes the last major hunting trip, and it was perfect...

Now to find out what I have missed here.

It is heartwarming to read about your time with your dad.
I always think of the passage of life like a Seismograph readout .The long slow undulations are the mundane every day stuff, the upward spikes are special events in life that mark a place and time, and the downward spikes are those awful events like bereavement and divorce etc. It’s the spikes that we remember and the mundane just disappears.
    Here’s to the upward spikes.

Sounds like an awesome time. Nothing better than getting to spend time with family.

Awesome to spend time with your Dad while you are able. Regardless of the meal that sounds like a great Thanksgiving and a great reason for giving thanks.
