  • New title?

I was talking to George offline about this forum. We old timers here have always called this dive watch forum "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." I wonder how we could incorporate that into the current title of the forum, or if anyone else would like to change it up a little in that respect? The focus would still be primarily on Dive watches.

EoT TLoEG Dive Watch Forum or The League of Extraordinary Gentleman's Dive watch Discussion Forum? Although I hasten to point out, that any use of the word "Gentleman" in the title, will immediately alienate and discriminate against all of those Extraordinary Ladies out there. The Affiliated Leagues of Extraordinary Lady's and Gentleman's Watch Discussion Forum. We'll run out of space in the title line.

Here's a thought posted by Kurt regarding potential improvements to the forum.

Quote: [When Glenn Frey was still alive he made a 'telling' comment about
the Eagles music. Glenn said: "People don't just sit around and listen
to our songs—they DO things to Eagles music." This could be running,
working, riding your MC (like I do), cutting the grass whatever. It prompts
you to get up and do something.

Maybe a forum that covers what people DO while wearing their specific
watches—whether diving, climbing, fishing, touring—you get the idea.]

Perhaps these two ideas could be mashed together in some way...........

Tim, this forum has never been about just watches. At least in my mind it hasn't. It's always been a place where everyone could just chat in a relaxed manner among friends. For that matter, check out a few of the most recent posts. Now that we're starting to come back alive, the old character is returning.

Hm. "The League of Extraordinary Folks & Dive Watches"??

This place is being revived. A new name might be appropriate.

      What does everyone else say?

Cardigan American Princess Celeste says, "It's too quiet. You guys get up off your butts and start doing things."

I still like "The League of Extrordinary Gentlemen" rather than "folks" - smacks too much of ACE Hardware commercial trying to be PC haha.

        TLoEG Dive Watch Forum ???

George is correct, it's always been more than watches, though we need to keep dive watches integral to the forum in my opinion.

          New Name

Good morning all, can i chip-in as a newbie?

I agree that the Dive watch forum could be more than just watches, because diving and the sea evoke so many more emotions. It could include a section for the kind of things that people like to collect for their homes e.g old brass diver's helmets, and small anchors and propellors etc . I dont mean on an industrial scale but it could certainly have a corner set aside for ocean related goodies, perhaps even underwater cameras as many watch lovers like a camera too. I can already hear people saying "well why not old cinematic stuff then... where do you stop?" But if it were specifically sea-related it may bring in a whole new group of people who otherwise may not visit.

Another Element that could be included into the whole EOT forum is recommended watch repairers. I have seen a general decline in actual time-served (no pun intended) watch specialists who actually know their way around the internals of a watch and know what they are doing. If I, as a new buyer of Rado watches, wants to have it repaired or serviced i haven't got a clue who i could go to and feel confident that they would (a) be able to fix it and (b) care for my collectors piece. A list produced by all those who have experienced good service somewhere could include the details in an easy to complete form broken into sections for the US, UK ,Europe , Scandinavia, South and Central America etc then by state for the bigger countries like the US for example. This would be accesible for members only, to stop people joining , grabbing all the info then leaving.

Finally I feel that the forum needs to 'say exactly what it does on the Tin' If it is renamed as 'The Oceanophiles Kingdom of Time piece Ragalia' no one will actually know what it is. It should certainly at least begin with 'Dive Watch Forum'.
          Cheers
          Andrew

I'm not PC about the title - men are allowed to have their own private clubs, just as women have theirs. It's 99.999% men in here at any given time, and always has been. Whatever.

              How about some more input?

I think we need about 6 long time members here to be moderators. I have not seen Chris or Tyler around, but I hope they come back.

I'd volunteer, but that is not up to me. I think just look at the old regulars here - Moss, George etc... then make a decision.
