I just saw this on our favorite auction site.
WOW!

http://www.webauktion24.com/BilderAuktionen/2007/05/OB/20070529-08_Rado_WristAlarm/065.jpg (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320120677902&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011)

Feel free to bid (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320120677902&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011), or just make an offer at the seller's price:
Sofortkauf (buy-it-now)
EUR 3,250

These don't come along often in this condition. I will keep an eye on this for future reference. An amazing piece, nearly 50 years old.

EUR 3,250

what they want is not always what they get ;)

I saw similar models which often run on epay up to $600 let's see what those German guys earn :p

I agree, it seems exorbitant. However, there's no guessing what a couple of avid collectors of something will be willing to pay for a fine rare example when they start bidding!

:p that's part of the game

in my opinion the RADO Alarm model of the late 60s with the legendary AS5008 automatic movement is much more interesting than this one ;)
last time I saw one of them (it was the older 17 jewels version) it was at $650 ('buy it now')

should I add it? :)

For EUR 3,250, I could build a nice collection of Rados. Nothing truly exotic, but still, some very nice watches.

Perhaps hundreds of Voyagers!

Perhaps enough even to get all 33 of the Voyager models.

I think I would get it.
I would at the very least watch it and bid on it accordingly. That watch is just absolutely amazing. What a find. How often do you see something like that?

Peace,
Scott

I agree, gents. Assuming it's authentic (which it looks) I think it is quite a rare rooster.

The final bid was about one-third of the buy it now price.

This RADO ALARM Automatic (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110136330589&rd=1&rd=1) on ebay is the more interesting object ;) AFAIK only 5000 ever built, it contains the legendary AS5008 movement which winds up the watch and the bell automatically

What do think about this one?

That's a very nice example. I spotted that one and put it on my watch list, though I don't intend to bid. It's not a style I would wear (when given the option to wear some other vintage Rados I have) and I've found I'm not much of a wrist-alarm user. It's a cool collectors piece, but if pressed I think I prefer the older hand-wound models.

It looks quite a bit like I would expect an original Rado black dial alarm watch would appear. I wonder if they originally made a black dial model...
;)

I have difficullty swallowing the music note on the face of the watch. Maybe it was original to the watch, but looks suspect to me.

Based on the auctions out of India that I have seen, the watches seem to get redialed in most cases. However, it could be that most of the mechanical Rados (if not all brands) are in pretty bad shape and wouldn't sell otherwise.

Hiho,

the already mentioned RADO Automatic Alarm (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110141716822&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001) (from above) is still available.
It's at BPD 70 at the moment - about 11 hours left -> a possible/realistic price in my opinion is at about BPD 150-170.

It's not my auction (I already own one of those with a diffrent braclet) :p but it would be a nice chance to catch one ;)

If some from the board wins this auction, please send some pictures from the back with the number for Brad to find out the exact age (I will add my number as well when I came home!)

IT WAS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
Really chuffed with £118.50 shipped - I am looking forward to getting it ( passing on the serial numbers) and sitting it next to my older, handwound Alarm.
Here is the older one - I believe it has been repainted, but a sympathetic and successful job IMHO.
Sorry for the picture quality and pics to follow of the new one when it arrives.

Gilbert, I have a theory about the watch you posted with case number 44231001.

We know that, according to Rado in CH, only 1000 of these were made. The grey ones were made early in the production run, but I would assume all the cases were made in one production run from the department/supplier that provided them. I wonder whether the case of yours was the last case made/numbered in the series. If the first case was # 44230001, then the 1000th would be yours. Mine is 44230285, which supports the theory somewhat. I'd be interested to see if other examples of this reference also fit the thoeory.

Cheers,
Brad
